Teaching at the Laboratory of Oceanography of Villefranche, LOV

The Institut de la Mer de Villefranche (IMEV) is a field campus of Sorbonne Université. As such, many courses (degree curricula, professional training, and continuing education) are given at the IMEV. The LOV’s eight university faculty members are particularly involved in the Master’s degree in Ocean Sciences, in all areas of oceanography: physics, chemistry and biology. The Master’s degree training exploits the diverse scientific expertise and instrument development skills of the LOV members covering broad disciplinary fields and cutting-edge techniques.

Thus, several course units of the 1st and 2nd year of this master’s degree, hosted by the IMEV, rely exclusively on LOV’s university faculty. The topics covered range from modelling and numerical analysis to the diversity of pelagic organisms and the functioning of ecosystems.

LOV university faculty members are involved on a more occasional basis in teaching undergraduate classes on the Paris campus (bachelor’s degree), in common core teaching units and in continuing education (e.g., Taxonomy of pelagic organisms, Numerical analysis) on the IMEV campus of Sorbonne Université.
