Sea2Cloud-CNES

How biology affect marine aerosols and in turn influence the atmosphere and climate

Principal Investigator(s) :

Karine Sellegri

Local Coordinator(s) :

Julia Uitz

Team(s) involved :

OMTAB

Members :

Raphaelle Sauzède | Louis Terrats
Based on an interdisciplinary approach, the Sea2Cloud project aims to investigate how the biogeochemical properties of the Southern Ocean waters impact the properties and fate of clouds over this region.
Sea2Cloud relies on several sources of fundings, among which an ERC grant (PI Karine Sellegri, LaMP). Members of the OMTAB team are involved in the Sea2Cloud CNES project. In this framework, they provide large-scale biological products (concentrations of chlorophyll and particulate organic carbon, phytoplankton community composition) in an attempt to evaluate the impact of biology on marine aerosols and, thereby, cloud properties with feedback to the Earth’s climate.

Sciences-Sur-Mer

As part of the Year of the Ocean, the Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefranche is actively participating in two major events: the One Ocean Science Congress and l’UNOC’3.
Our unit’s staff will take part in scientific discussions and associated events, and will also contribute to the “Sciences-sur-Mer” Festival (June 7–13, Villefranche-sur-Mer), which aims to strengthen the link between science and society by offering opportunities for dialogue between stakeholders and inviting both the general public and school groups to take part.
