I investigate the effects of climate on marine biodiversity and the potential for species to adapt under ongoing and projected environmental change. Teixidó is currently a research scientist at the Laboratoire d’Océanographie de Villefrance with the “Make Our Planet Great Again-MOPGA” award. The 4Oceans-MOPGA seeks to investigate physiological, ecological and adaptive responses of marine organisms to ocean warming and ocean acidification. This is key to advance our understanding of species and ecosystem resilience under present conditions and future climate scenarios. The research is based on two natural nearshore sites: (i) highly variable seasonal temperatures and extreme heat-waves in the Mediterranean Sea, and (ii) marine volcanic natural CO2 vents, which cause local acidification of seawater and are used as proxy to represent future acidification conditions.
